In Between The Sadness ©

In between the sadness
The darkness begs the day
To open up its heavy lids
And look upon what may

In between the sadness
The dark invades my thoughts
Of wanting nothing
And seeing no one
My heart again in knots

In between the sadness
The tears well up inside
And wait to let the pain out
Before I hear its cries

In between the sadness
I put a slim smile upon my face
And hide the pain that stabs me
In all reluctant places

Souls Racing To Heaven ©

Souls racing to Heaven
I see them all go by
I try to reach and touch them
But I can’t and I hear them cry

They cry for Mommy and Daddy
For Sissie and Brother too
They cry for their Aunt Judy
Their dog and their cousin Sue

I see the tears in their eyes
They move along too fast
I race, but I can’t reach them
They smile and then they pass

Slow down and let me touch you
One more quick smile and then a hug
Don’t let me in the ground now
It’s there, but it’s not dug

I don’t want to say “Goodbye” yet
I want to say “Hello”
I’m looking down from Heaven
And your hearts are all aglow

I find I’m walking in now
To God’s house
And now his land
Don’t worry Mommy and Daddy
Because now he takes my hand

I feel the sadness leaving
I see some of my friends

The sun is always shining
It’s warm, even at night
The lightening bugs are flying
And they’re never out of sight

I see Grandpa swimming
Past the grass, down by the pond
I see you all are smiling
I’m here now
I’m not gone

For Maggie ©

I have a gift that I’ve been given
It’s for all those that want it
It’s the soul for your livin’

Let me lift you up
I won’t have you go down
You’re too precious to flounder
You’re too precious to drown

I see your soul
I see your heart
I see your weakness
I see your smart

I see your laughter
Just waiting to spring
I hear your voice
Just waiting to sing

Of the goodness you carry
Of the gentleness I find
Your words won’t leave me
You’re forever in my mind

Your tears how they moved me
Your flesh was so tender
You needed my comfort
So you could surrender

All of the fears
The panics
The threats
You found you had courage
And lifted the bets

You saw your heart soar
It scared you and yet

You went straight away
And made changes anew

You’re glorious
I marvel
You’re special
You’re you!
